Brookhaven Crisis Stabilization Unit

The Brookhaven Crisis Stabilization Unit is a non-hospital facility that offers 24-hour, seven days a week, behavioral health treatment to adults 18 years of age and older. Participants benefit from assessments and evaluations, early intervention, prevention, stabilization, referral and follow-up for behavioral health services or help to achieve or improve their prior level of functioning following a crisis. Housed in secure environments with highly trained staff, these services are short-term supervised care services to prevent further increase in symptoms of a behavioral health illness or to prevent hospitalization. 

The purpose of the CSU is to intervene and stabilize those in acute psychiatric crisis.  During their stay, they will benefit from assessments and evaluations, medication management, case management, individual and group therapies in an effort to stabilize the individual and achieve or improve their prior level of functioning following a psychiatric crisis. Stabilization and referral for follow-up behavioral health services are available in order to achieve or improve prior levels of functioning following a crisis.

Crisis stabilization services include the following types of services on a short-term basis, as appropriate: 

  • Individual or family counseling support

  • Psychiatric Evaluation

  • Medication management and administration

  • Stress management counseling

  • Individualized treatment plan development that empowers the individual

  • Behavioral illness and substance abuse awareness and education

  • Identification and development of natural support systems

  • Discharge planning to establish follow-up outpatient services
