Critical Time Intervention

Critical Time Intervention (CTI) is an empirically supported, time-limited Community Support Services (CSS) model designed to prevent homelessness in people with mental illness following discharge from Region 8’s Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU). This transitional period is one in which people often have difficulty re-establishing themselves in stable housing with access to needed supports. CTI works in two main ways: by providing emotional and practical support during the critical time of transition by strengthening the individual’s long-term ties to services, family, and friends.

The CTI program is currently in a research phase and is working with the University of Chicago to evaluate the program.  For this reason, CTI is limited to those recruited at time of discharge from the CSU to the treatment group of the project.  CTI is provided in Copiah, Lincoln, Madison, Rankin, and Simpson Counties by specified CTI CSS staff.
